Vicissitudes

mid 2025 update

Hi there, it's been a while! Hope you're doing well in these trying times. I thought I'd make a post giving some updates on where I've been and what I've been doing.

Moving

My family and I recently moved into a new place! It was exciting and stressful at the same time, it made me feel like I never want to move again until I eventually move out.

Although it was pretty stressful, the move was also balanced out by some excitement as we went from a rented apartment to owning our own home. I have so many ideas of how I want to decorate my room and I've been scouring IKEA and Facebook marketplace for interesting furniture pieces and bargains. I guess it's a sign of my age when I get excited looking at furniture.

Work

I've been doing the usual stuff at work so far this year, working on projects and delivering deliverables. But I was recently inspired by a close co-worker who left the company and have started brushing up on my interview skills after a long time. Several recruiters have already reached out to me, so I'm looking forward to possibly landing a new job soon!

Hobbies

I'm still keeping up my daily Japanese studies. As of writing, I've almost learned more than 12k words as shown in my flash card app. I'm also trying to maintain my goal of reading more books this year, although I've been losing steam a little bit on that front. These are the books that I've read to completion so far so far:

  1. Steal Like an Artist: 10 Things Nobody Told You About Being Creative - Austin Kleon
  2. Show Your Work: 10 Ways to Share Your Creativity and Get Discovered - Austin Kleon
  3. Tao Te Ching - Lao Tzu
  4. In the Buddha's Words: An Anthology of Discourses from the Pali Canon - Bhikku Bodhi
  5. How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big - Scott Adams

Aside from these books, I am currently reading "Discourses and Selected Writings" by Epictetus.

Exercise

I've gone to the gym a lot more this year than any other time in my life. I don't remember another year where I've been this consistent and stuck to the habit of going to the gym. At one point I was going 6 times a week for a few months, but I've since cut down to 3 days because going to the gym is less convenient after moving to a new place.

I hope everyone has had a good first half of the year. Wishing you all the best for the rest of the year.
