the act of creation
Is creating things innate to human nature? Why did the first painter paint? Why did the first writer write? Why did the first sculptor sculpt? Why was the first song created?
Whatever the answer may be, I just think its so cool that humans create things. Whether it's to tell a message, to leave a mark on the world, or even out of necessity, every person who creates things is putting a piece of themselves out there to share with others.
When people create music, art, prose, or anything else, they draw from their own experiences and inspirations to incorporate into their work. The artist who they take inspiration from also have their own experiences and stories which they've drawn from, and on and on.
So when people create things, its as if they're invoking the entire chain of human creativity to pour into their own work, to transform and make something old new again. This cycle continues as new creations will eventually inspire the next generation of artists and creators, adding yet another link to the chain.
As such, whenever I create things, I am unknowingly standing on the shoulders of giants and taking things from various works and artists and morphing them into my own version. Thinking about creation in this way gives me a grand sense of connection, as if I am participating in the act of creation humans have practiced for thousands of years.
Through this, I hope that some of my writings will have done just that and inspire at least one person who has read it. If somebody starts writing their own blog after reading one of my posts, I would be extremely happy knowing that I contributed to the corpus of human creation.
